This brand new two-story, 38,000 square foot building associated with Cedars-Sinai features a variety of artwork including a number of commissioned pieces in its two large waiting areas. A large six foot painting on wood panel depicts an abstract interpretation of the Torrance region, focusing on where the land meets the ocean. Nearby, a series of hand blown glass pieces tie in to the finishes and capture the natural light that fills the space (image above). An interesting challenge for this project was to integrate over 30 pieces of existing artwork from an old facility while maintaining a fresh, contemporary overall feel for the collection. Through careful placement and thoughtful reframing, we achieved cohesion with the reused artwork and the new. The artwork here is designed to be appreciated at first glance then again for its details, since many patients and families will visit the facility frequently for infusion services.
